Thumbelina final.

As I was drawing and painting Thumbelina, certain themes began to surface and speak to me. She was treated as a commodity by almost everyone around her, and she didn’t have much control over her journey or fate. Most of her saviours turned into captors. She kept moving forward, willingly or not, without the certainty of whether she’d be in a better place but knowing for sure that she couldn’t remain where she was.

This is a story I will probably revisit in another larger piece that will more completely document her journey.

I made the oyster veneer customizable so now you can just move some sliders and get different kinds.

My main problem to solve right now is tiling these so that they can make patterns…

There doesn’t seem to be a straightforward way to do it so it’s going to be crazy. I’m just going to keep it simple and move on with my life.

A very long time ago, I saw an exhibit by painter

A very long time ago, I saw an exhibit by painter Hugh O’ Donnell and this painting always remained with me. At almost 8ft tall, it was a massive and impressive scaled painting.

I actually didn’t particularly like the colour scheme of this painting. I thought it was kind of a weird, unsettling palette, with purples, yellow-greens, and burnt sienna.

But now, I can appreciate this palette a lot more, as well as the messy, chaotic, energetic brushwork. It all looks really natural in the end.
